Margie Miller is a painter
and art educator. A San Francisco native, she is a graduate of the
art department at U.C. Davis and did post graduate work at the Oregon
School of Arts and Crafts.
At U.C. Davis she studied
under the renowned California artists Wayne Thiebaud, William T. Wiley,
and Roy De Forest. It was in her exposure to their bold use of
color, unusual design elements, and whimsy that she found her own
unique California style.
Currently a resident of
Nevada City, California, northwest of Lake Tahoe, Margie has been
teaching art to adults and children for over 15 years. Trained as
a fine artist, she works with acrylics, watercolor, egg tempera, and
synthetic aniline dyes.
Margie's
award winning paintings use bright bold colors, simple lines, and unique
perspectives to create paintings that evoke optimism and humor. One
of her collectors has remarked, "Margie's paintings make me feel
happy when I look at them."
Margie is a painting instructor and art
history lecturer. A popular lecturer on many topics of Western art,
she is a frequent presenter at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento,
CA. Margie has a catalog of speaking topics, demonstrations, and
workshop presentations. The catalog is available upon request.
For over 15 years she has worked at schools
and institutions around Northern California teaching painting and drawing
to adults and children. In 1999 she was named the Art Educator of
the Year for Nevada County. She has organized and installed shows of
student work in educational institutions, public buildings and the Crocker Art Museum.
Margie Miller's art studio is located at
the top of Banner Mountain above Nevada City. With forest views and
abundant light, it is an inspiring location to create her vibrant art
works. Visits to her studio are available by appointment.
